The fundraiser went well and thanks for asking guys. Thanks to all of you who showed up and amazingly alot of his campaign volunteers showed up. Sorry to rain on your parade Brian but support for him is rising and the man has a huge grip on the west coast. It cracks me up though that you keep trying to discourage interest in him here on the board.

For those of you who asked, the board isn't going anywhere and nor is the site. We'll find a replacement for the current board and keep it going as long as it serves a positive purpose.
    Thanks,

I only get the Sunday paper and to tell you the truth, I don't really care too much about the paper covering gay issues. If I want gay news, then i'll tap into another source like the advocate. I don't know much about the papers here and miss the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
I do read the Stranger and the Seattle Weekly here though, though I don't know if I would call that news by any means!

the bill is in parliament right now and has not gone through yet but should soon. it calls for a small fine for pot use of any amount under 15 grams but no criminal charge. in turn, though, the law has penalties that are more sever on trafiking of the drug. i guess Mr. Bush suggested that we not pass this because then he would ahve to increase broder checks and patrols. ah well.

Legalize it
Posted by Danny on 5/31/2003 at 19:45:28
IP: 12.242.162.217

The war on drugs is a bunch of BS and a waste of money. I also think pot should be legalized or alcohol should be illegalized because there's too much hypcocrisy there. If you've ever read about the history of the drug war, you'll find out that pot was only illegalized not too many decades ago to try to curve Mexican immigration. The government claimed that the immigrants were bringing huge amounts of Marijuana with them and it was destroying American society, therefore a stop had to be put to both. It's all propoganda of course and pot is no more destructive than alcohol.

" Saying Yes: In Defense of Drug Use" written by Jacob Sullum ; It is basically a book about the failed War on Drugs and destruction of civil liberties. The author supports making POT legal so i knew it would be a book Danny would love. It has lots of facts and figures to back up info. It has a simple white cover with a joint on it. Should be very easy on Danny's glaucoma afflicted eyes. Just Joking...sort of!

everybody has their time and there is no need to shove sexuality down anyones throat. As long as your sexuality is not the number 1 priority in your life, you and your friends should have loads to do and talk about.

ask yourself, why does everything always revolve around sex and the personal life?

the ban
Posted by Danny on 5/24/2003 at 07:52:40
IP: 12.242.162.217

Hey, thanks for throwing that up and as for Paul, I'll answer for him since he's said this so many times I already know what he'll say. Basically of course he feels that the ban is unfair and wrong but ultimately the time isn't right to lift the ban. Our military is made up of our countrymen, especially the lower class who are for the most part extremely anti-gay. Therefore, they will go to any extreme to keep gays out. The ban indirectly protects people because so many in the military just aren't ready for that change. You can't force such drastic change onto a group overnight when it's cohesion is so important and until our country as a whole changes its view towards gays, it's really pointless to keep aiming at the military. We're trying to change an institution within within the greater American cultural institution and the aim is misdirected. Our nation is still in the stoneage when it comes to acceptance of gays and all of these other nations have lifted their bans because they're so advanced on the issue as a whole. We can't compare our situation to theirs. However, the time is quickly coming and its only a matter of time before we see our hypocrisy and unfairness as a nation and the policy tumbles. Patience is a virtue and this underscores the continued need for gays to set positive examples and for stronge, positive leaders to step forward.

I think most presidents would have handled the initial situation in a similar manner but later downt he road would have been more careful where we stepped, what we said and who we attacked. I don't think Bush has done anything amazingly different than anyone else would have done on 911 and after.

Well most Repubs will agree he isn't the most articulate individual. He has a great team of advisors, but being able to direct the knowledge given to him is just out of his reach.
Criticism of him aside, he has dealt probably with the most direct attack centered at this country in 2001. Most wouldn't have thought it would have ever happened. In Maine we never would have thought terrorists would travel through here but they did (they stopped for cigarettes by the store next to my building).
Hypothetically how do you think Gore would have approached he last few years had he been declared the winner in 2000?

Young people MUST vote next year. It's probably the only way Bush will be beat and if enough young people do vote, he can easily be beat. The trick is getting apathetic young people out to the polls. I plan on working with "Rock the Vote" again to help make that happen.

It's amazing what one can find to do with free time. I have plenty of it and use it up pretty well. I stay fit and work out alot as well as bike and run. There are always trails to be hiked, friends to be visited and road trips to be had as well as other travel. There are books to be read, websites to be tended, a house to be worked on, sports to be played etc. I find plenty to do and it's amazing. Normally though in my speaking season, i'm busy running all over the country, which means, yes, there's no time for another job, which is fine with me! The summer is pretty laid back though and I have plenty of time to spend out doors and enjoy this sweet summer weather. I'm a luck bast*rd.

I'm trying to be more patient at dealing with young people because I've got a feeling that alot of my life will revolve around them. I haven't forgotten though what it's like to be young and insecure and searching for meaning and validation. I understand this kid well and just having a problem at making him understand. He thinks I'm attacking him but I understand very well where he's coming from and agree with him! I guess he wants me to say that young people are more intelligent and wise than adults and then he'd let it go.

OK man, this is the last time i'll address this and then no more. You're right, I haven't appologized to you because I haven't done anything to you. Again, as I said before, You've twisted my words into me saying "that all young people are unwise and have so much to learn." That's not at all what I said and you exaggerated what I said. Young people have alot to learn, though not all of them are as unwise as the general population and not every adult is unwise. Some young people are way ahead of their years and there are even a few out there who are far beyond what most adults will reach. However, most young people have alot to learn and we're all still learning for that matter. Each time you bring this up though, you're proving your own immaturity. Listen man, I'm 25 and you don't hear me whining about how wise I am because I know I still have alot to learn in life and that there are plenty of older people out there who can teach me more. (not to say that they all can) If you were wise, you'd accept this and get off your youth-oriented insecurity wagon. I know where you're coming from because I was there once. I'm sorry to be so harsh with you, but this has gotten really old. If you want a psychological analysis of your behavior, I'm going to give it to you.
When you bring this issue up over and over again, it shows that you're desperately insecure and searching for validation of your position in society. However, by going back to this over and over, you're showing the opposite of what you're wanting to be validated. I'm sure you're well ahead of your years man, but you've got plenty to learn; So relax and enjoy the ride. I'm not attacking you and never have. Everything is fine.

Seattle, there's tons to do; you've just got to pray for good weather. Seattle is all about the outdoors so if you're into that, there's tons of hiking, biking, kyaking, boating, etc. There's alot plenty of tourists diversions for you. Downtown is loaded. As far as neighborhoods to live in, i'm assuming your friend will rent to begin with. My favorite neighborhoods are Fremont/Wallingford and Greenlake though they're really pricey if you want to buy.

I'll eventually get pictures up. We went to Zihuatanejo, which was nice because it's mostly a local Mexican destination. few tourists.

      Danny,
Where are the pictures of your Mexico trip. Where were you. I was just in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo and Mazatlan. A group of 10 of us went and took over the cruise ship (straight cruise until we took over)

Yes, 283! It's sad that I forgot the name. That's place did you to be "Cheers" for me and my friends. I was sad to visit a couple of years later and find that it had changed so much and was full of corn. The whole town has changed alot but it's still the best. I've still got a couple of friends there in law school so I'll get back there sooner or later.

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. It is kinda nice when you have your own space to go to with your friends. It kinda makes it feel like you are in Cheers or something. I mean... college is such a good time that it's almost scary to think I'm gonna be in the real world this time next year, and even though I have all these plans about what I want to do with my life it still scares me to think that I'm not going to have the shelter of this awesome little town, and my friends to keep me company all the time (no matter what time of the night). I mean I know that we all have to grow up, but the idea of it sucks. The only thing I'm really excited about it the opportunity to travel as much as I can. I can't wait to see the world.

    Later,

    Matt,
my favorite bar when I was there was 284 or 285. I can't even remember the number now but you know what i'm talking about. It used to be really laid back and loungy but now it has turned into your typical frat/sorority bar, which is super lame. I miss that place though.

Most def dude. It was so cool during the war, because you had your protesters in front of the arch, and then you had your pro war people too, ubt they never got into it hard core. They just had intellectual battles back and forth.. it was very cool. What was your favorite bar? I'm kind of partial to Molly's and El Centro. Boneshakers SUCKS!!!!

You know I spoke there at an informal event last year, right? The best thing about it is the nice balance of liberal/conservative and nice sensibility of the students.

You are absolutely right it is magic here in Athens. It is small enough to be qaunt, but large enough to be cool. Everything is cheap, and it is hard to know how good we really have it here. They keep adding more bars...as always!! I'm not complaining about that. But anyways, it's good to hear back from you. It's really cool that you actually take the time to respond back, and you should definatley come back to the ol' Alma Mater and speak sometime. I know we'd love to have you down here.

OH and btw... Don't you miss the lazy afternoons hanging out on college square right by Blue Sky.

good morning ctoc. So i'm back home again and returning to a normal schedule, well, as normal as it gets around here. I had an awesome time in Mexico and Boston as well but am very glad to be home. Matt, I just read your post and thanks for writing. Welcome to the site and you really made me homesick for UGA again. How's Athens these days? Enjoy that place as much as possible because it's magic. I've been to alot of schools around the country and have found few that even come close to what Athens and UGA have to offer.

Jhune, Hey man, i'm too lazy to log into my email account and email you but this new board is pissing me off because I can't log into my account, therefore can't use color! Also, i've got some dope pictures from my vacation for you later. Lastly, if there's one more freakin reference to "the picture", i'll personally come to your house and strangle you. Come on people, have some tact and respect and quit talking about it. Could you possibly get any lamer? I'm sick of the subject coming up on my board.
    Thanks,
    Danny

How's it going CTOC. Glad to see so many new people and so much good discussion going on while i've been away. Jhune, not sure what you've been doing with the message board but i'm unable to log into my account now. Can you fix that? Thanks for the updates by the way!
Just so you guys know, that's actually an old picture from The RW9 book posted at the top. It cracks me up because I look SOOO young in it. I just returned from Mexico and had an awesome vacation. It's always good to get out of the country and travel and put this place into a healthy perspective. I wish I had time to respond to some posts but i've got to get ready for my trip to Boston tomorrow. Maybe i'll see some of you at the youth Rally there on Saturday.
    Take care,
    Danny

Brian is right, so much of it is in your own head. I think the toughest part of coming out is admitting it to yourself. That's probably your biggest worry that you haven't dealt with yet and that's why you're not sure why is such a big deal. When you admit it to yourself, you confirm the reality in a concrete way and that's #### scary. It's a "no turning back" moment.

I was just wondering if anyone would reply with some insight on their experiences of "coming out." Right now I'm 22, gay, and afraid of coming out. I don't know if its me who is afraid that I'm finally acknowledging the inevitable or I don't know if its the fear of the repercussions that may evolve when I tell my family and friends that "I'm gay." Maybe its a combination. Basically I'm insecure when I don't want to be and just reading interesting thoughts and opinions would be empowering. I know I'm not alone in my viewpoints but its hard when you feel alone. Alright enough of the pity party for myself. Hope to hear from anybody.

My experience is it was more of a big deal in my head than anyone elses. I wouldn't worry too much about it, get it over with you'll feel better. Like pulling a band aid off, do it quick.

even though I think this is going a little too far into my personal life, I'll answer it because I think it's an important issue. We don't use condoms because we are monogomous. My slip up on the Real World wasn't exactly sex considering it was a kiss, not that it's OK. It takes alot to build trust and we do trust each other.

Danny, do you and Paul wear condoms? Since you are in a monogamous committed relationship i was wondering if you both wore condoms or have bareback sex? Do you trust each other and know both of you will be faithful and bareback or do you realise one of you might slip up and cheat (like you did on the RW:NO!Sorry!LOL). How do you both handle this? The reason i ask is a couple i know had a monogamous relationship so they trusted each other and had bareback sex. Well, one of them had an affair and now they both are HIV+. It only takes once! So do you have faith and bareback, know it might happen and put on a condom, or put your head in the sand and don't bother thinking about it? I think it is an important question.

Not sure if anyone saw this one...this is quite an "apology"

    Rockies' Jones Apologizes
Making Anti-Gay Remarks Public Was `Mistake'

    May 1, 2003
    Combined Wire Services

Colorado Rockies pitcher Todd Jones apologized Wednesday for his recent anti-gay remarks, but he didn't back off what he said.

"I think my only mistake was that I made my views public," a teary-eyed Jones said while making his brief statement. "And for that, I apologize to the Rockies and I apologize to my teammates for putting them through this."

In an entertainment story in The Denver Post on Sunday, Jones said he would not want to have a gay teammate and that gays should not go around flaunting their sexuality.

The comments were part of a story comparing the story line of the Broadway play about a gay baseball player to what might happen if the scenario played out in real life. The play "Take Me Out" is centered on the repercussions of a Major League Baseball player announcing he's gay.

"I wouldn't want a gay guy being around me," Jones told the paper. "It's got nothing to do with me being scared. That's the problem: All these people say he's got all these rights. Yeah, he's got rights or whatever, but he shouldn't walk around proud. It's like he's rubbing it in our face. 'See me, Hear me roar.' We're not trying to be close-minded, but then again, why be confrontational when you don't really have to be?"

A Rockies statement on the team website Monday said Jones' comments were "unfortunate" and did not reflect the team's views.

Are you just jetting in for the Pride thing in the park or do you have any other talks scheduled in Boston? I haven't heard your talk yet, we might go see it and as a bonus our great Mayor of Providence David Cicilline is also on the panel with you. Introduce yourself, he's a good man, ran a great campaign here.

He was a virtual unknown here and ran on an anti-corruption platform. He's openly gay and won 80% of the vote. It was amazing. And he's been doing a great job since, cleaning up the mess from the last Mayor (who is now in prison).
