To Troy and others

    Troy,
I read your post and can definitely say that you're not alone in the way you feel. Actually, what you had to say is very valid in many ways and I'm going to tell you why.
In my life, I spend much of my time trying to educate people, dismantling negative stereotypes of gays and trying to get the public in general to think outside of the box and see gays in a more dynamic way. The irony of the situation is that truthfully, many gays can't think outside of the box in similar ways. Many within the gay community have a very narrow, limiting view of what life is and can be as a gay man. This "gay framework" has been laid down for whatever reason and now people think it's the norm to be followed and emulated. The problem with this framework is that it is about as diverse and condusive to personal growth as spending time at a christian school in the south could be.
That is why you and so many others feel limited in your choices and feel so aliented from both sides of the story. There's this growing void with many gays who want more than spending our lives dancing to bad diva-house in some club, surrounding ourselves with gay cliques, consuming only gay pop-culture, and on and on with the gay cliches. A gay "lifestyle" once served its purpose as a way of bringing people together and creating a sense of community but I believe those days are numbered. I see the gay community growing and moving on past that. There's enough acceptance to allow people to grow and become much more than what the past had to offer. It's all around us. The old notion of a "gay lifestyle" is dying and for good reason. We're all individuals and just like any other group, don't fit neatly into a specific packaging. I just hope you and others realize this and don't feel so cornered by mainstream gay culture.
There are myriad choices out there, it's just up to you to have the courage to take that route.
    much love,
    Danny

Hey Troy...I've got a question for you...
What does being "straight acting" have to do with coming out? Alot of people ask that and I'm not sure where or why it matters.

"Courage isn't the lack of fear, but is being afraid and moving on."

    Much love,

Arthur, why the hell would I live there. It annoys me that just because i'm gay, people assume that i'd live in a mostly gay neighborhood. No way. I try to keep my life a little more diverse than that.

man...I got alot of responses off yesterday's posts and some questions too.

First off...Ty...I wasn't asking whether "American" refers to the US or Canada, etc...I was STATING that "American" truley refers to all nations of the Americas, though we in the US often refer to oursevles as Americans, which technically is wrong, but it's accepted. I actually learned this while living in Quebec and was corrected every time I called myself an American. They made me realize that they are in fact just as much American as I am.

Hey, good morning Jhune...

Milan...maybe you will...there's something good to be found everywhere if you dig hard enough. However, my friends who work there often hate it, but I've never personally been.

I hear that Milan is the New Jersey of Italy and not a great place to see.

yes...i went to a few back in my college days early on when I started exploring the "gay world". All I found them to be was an empty, pathetic den of sleez where guys couldn't keep their clothes on or keep their hands off each other. Being constantly groped isn't my idea of fun.
Bascially, you wont catch me dead near one of those again.

American

has anyone ever considered this? To say that "I'm an American" can actually denote that you're possibly from the US, Canada, or even Mexico and so on. America is technically the continent and not a country. I was really made to see this while living in Quebec. When you're out traveling, you sometimes have to be more specific.

Good morning Stoney and Rochester...

no one has to refer to themself as "Euro-American"...that term was written in my Real World Application a a long time ago and that's where this all started. I was being very specific at the time when I wrote that and normally wouldn't refer to myself as that either. It's funny how people can pull things out of context years later and get their underwear all in a wad.

Alex,
i'm not sure where you're from, but in the US, there's one true group of people who are "Americans" and that would be native Americans. My family migrated here from Europe, therefore, that would make me Euro-American. Just the same as blacks are Afro-Americans, etc.

How's it going folks...sorry to just drop in like this but I just wanted to say hello. I've been pretty busy lately with friends being in town and school/life/etc. Noticed lately that some people have been really cool about keeping the integrity of this board going and I really wanted to thank those of you. I also wanted to let you guys know that I'll be doing an update of my journal page sometime in the next few days and I promise that. I've been a real slacker in that area lately. Hope you all have a good night and wake up felling fresh tomorrow. Good Dreams to you all.
