night Lance Posted by Danny on 6/26/2003 at 02:57:04 IP: 12.242.162.217 Go to bed man! I've got to do it because i'll hate life at 5am.
Hope all of you have an excellent weekend with good weather and for
those of you in Atlanta, come and see me at the Subaru tent and donate
money to charity.
childish just dumb things out of insecurities like, "real world sucks".
Very intelligent and original boys! Yeah, classic b*tchy Seattle scene.
Comment:
Re:
i've given them all a chance Very childish, yet again, very gay scene in Seattle.
i've
given them all a chance the worst experience I had was at R-place. I actually had a good
time but at closing time, the jackasses had to get on the speaker and
rip on the Real World, which was a lame attempt at ripping on me. Very
childish. Comment:
Re: no
hate... I guess....#### I've tried it and I definitely know I don't like
it.
no
hate... i've checked it out too out of curiousity. You dont' know until
you've tried it, right?! Comment:
Re:
####... Yeah, don't lose respect for me because I went to the cuff.
####... the ads out. was hoping that one would go unnoticed. that's
hilarious that you tried the cuff! Comment:
Gotta
ask Danny Somehow, someway, I was convinced to go to The Cuff a couple
weeks ago. It was a sad situation.
i'm
sure... it's beautiful but CO isn't too close to WA! Comment:
Re: not
there... ya. Took me about 3 times going to get a hang of it. I really
want to try surfing... im hoping maybe its same concept..
not
there... only in Washington and Montana. I'm still learning and can't get
off the lift correctly to save my life. it's sad. Comment:
snowboard? do u snowboard or do any winter sports while here?
nope
I
would... like to go back to Colorado though. I've got friends in Denver i'd
love to see.
oh,
probably wont be coming
depends on what they're looking for.... if they just want a fluffy Real World gossip show, then i'm not
the man. Most of my bookings haven't come in yet so who knows.
is it

don't

the
man doesn't even deserve being talked about he recently wrote a book that justified sleeping around.
a
writer and gay advocate
yeah
but... the more people that speak up against it, the more others will
realize that it's not the only alternative in life. I think most guys
just turn to it because it's safe and an easy escape. If it makes guys
happy though, then i'm ok with it and more power to them. I'm speaking
for guys who are left dissatisfied with mainstream gay life and i really
think there are many out there. Comment:
Re: no
man... For some reason, I sort of disagree. I feel that there is still
a very prominent number of gay men who have fallen prey to mainstream
gay culture.
no
man... what I said is harsh but I think alot of guys are increasingly
feeling that way. That's the reason this board exists and most of the
guys coming here probably feel this way too. I think most guys are just
afraid to say it because there is such a backlash. That's why I find
myself in such a touch position. By being a public figure, I want to
support gays of course but then i'm equally torn by wanting to cut down
the BS as well. it's frustrating but I think so many guys feel this way
that i'm not afraid to say it anymore. If no one speaks up then it'll
only get more shallow and worse. Comment:
Re:
i'll be blunt... Whoa, you captured it well and it's nice to hear someone else
understand how I feel about it.
i'll
be blunt... I think the gay scene for the most part is sad. I hate to see
young guys getting sucked into it's vacuum of soulesness. It's a land
with no limits, no boundaries and lots of emptiness. Comment:
Re:
Ha!! I definitely agree with you yet feel that the limitations and
oppresion within mainstream gay culture completely outway the same
evils in mainstream straight culture.
Ha!! that's so funny and fitting to post this under Dan Savage. I wrote
an article here with another writer for the stranger and Dan shot it
down in 2 seconds. That's exactly what I said. Gays spend all there time
screaming, "look at me, i'm such an individual, so free, blah blah
blah", but the truth is that most gays have thrown off the shackles of
oppression from one group and ran and put some gay ones on. Gay culture
can be just as limiting and oppressing as mainstream straight culture
and this is just one example. Dan censored my piece because it didn't
fit the gay agenda and most gays can't handle any criticism, even when
it's healthy.
it's
the hardest part of coming out...escaping ourselves
because he is the gay scene here. It's that passive aggressiveness i was talking about earlier. It's
all pretend love and good but underneath is nothing but nastiness and
darkness. Comment:
Dan
Savage ....to me, sort of serves as a perfect example of what many gay
men in seattle are like.
heading to Atlanta to help with a fundraiser
Dan
Savage He lives here in Seattle and I think he's a self-absorbed putz.
adopting the kid what a nice selfish political move Dan! Comment:
the kid
- dan savage so funny... about dan savage's experiences adopting a child with
his boyfriend
sadly... it's kind of that way everywhere. I wish there more who "got it"
as well. Comment:
Re:
well.. For me, the community here is rather discouraging for a couple
reasons. Because there definitely are these two distinct groups
(capitol hill and those who completely seperate themselves) here in
Seattle, it can be hard to connect yourself to gay people that aren't
like the in-crowd. Those who do seperate themselves, completely
seperate themselves. I interact with very few gays and sometimes I
wish there were more people who actually "get it."
well.. i'm kind of like you and don't get into it much but my few
experiences havent' been that great. From what i've seen, insecurity and
depression runs rampant amongst gays here but there seems to be two
distinct groups of gays here more so than what i'm used to. There's the
mainstream Capitol Hill group that's mostly b*tchy and lame and then
there's a huge group of guys that totally seperates themselves from that
and does their own thing. I think it's really easy to live outside the
gay world here because being gay is pretty accepted. There's no need to
be a part of the scene at all. Comment:
Re:
around seattle I know you've been on the east coast quite a bit.
around
seattle i really do love the environment around Seattle. It's some of the
most beautiful countryside i've ever seen. However, the city life
doesn't justify the outrageous cost of living here. If it weren't for
the water, mountains, etc, hardly anyone would live here.
it's
ok... don't mind justifying. The problem with Seattle is that so many
people who live here are stay at home types who just want to sit on the
couch and relax, read a book, watch TV, etc. Screw that man! If you're
going to live in a city, then live a city life and get your#####out and
socialize. Socializing can be painful at times here because it's like
pulling teeth with some people and that's if you catch them out. Mainly
my problem is that i'm just too spoiled by spending too much time in New
York, Boston, Atlanta and LA. After that, anything would be a snooze.
Comment:
Re:
well... Danny is right on point with this one. The city life here in
Seattle in minimal.
well... I haven't been that impressed with the city life yet. It's ok but unless it's a weekend, downtown is pretty much all but dead. not much of a city life. Comment:
Danny -
Seattle list?? Just saw your "what you'd miss about Seattle" list...have you turned into that much of a cruncher as 7 of the 8 are basically "nature"...and the one City element comes with a negative comment. There must be some things you must appreciate about City living? Restaurants, entertainment, theatre, sports, architecture, museums...?
thus,
the Oxymoron!
i
know... it kills me. All these white people creaming their pants over
so-so soul food because they've never had the real thing. Though I will
say that King Fish must be a real treat compared to the usual TOFU
special that most of these people are tearing into! Comment:Re:
already been there... you've got to be kidding me....the food there is so good.
already been there... everybody in Seattle reccomends that #### place and i've already
tried it. It's overpriced bland food. Expensive soul food is an
oxymoron! Comment:

haven't heard of it
seattle yes, the summer here is perfect but there's more reasons i'll
leave than the weather. Comment:

Seattle Danny, that sucks that you are going to be moving in a few years, I mean, just go out today and think about how great a city this is..True, the winters do sort of suck, but the winters suck pretty much everywhere, if you really think about it, well, except maybe Florida and Southern California, but who wants to live with all the nation's seniors, or with an illegal immigration problem? I think you could do a lot worse than Seattle, but hey, I can't say how I'll feel about 7 or 8 more winers, I have been here since Dec. of 99, and they haven't gotten to me yet..anyway, just my 2 cents.
Jason no worries with me man. I'm not upset at all however you owe the
others an appology and hopefully a point has been made here that it's
rude to run around telling people who they should vote for. Hell, it's
not even rude, it's just immature. Comment:
Danny,
please read: Hey man, I agree that my attack on Dean was wrong, I was stating my opinion strongly, perhaps a little too strongly. I know you and I differ politically, but I hope you aren't mad or holding any hard feelings towards me.
yeah
right!... even if I had dated him back in the day, he would have been prepubescent!
long
story...but basically after Andy and I broke up back in the day... i introduced them and
they hit it off. Comment:

yeah yeah you guys are too silly. well when he emails me tonight i will tell him to keep an eye on that Danny around his girl....how do you know Mandy????
she is

smog cloud as well. Comment:Well
Safe Travels... Best of luck with finding family for surprise 1st class upgrades
and please whatever you do...
yes... I dread SeaTac tomorrow. That airport was a joke for a while when
i first moved here...the lines. Then they really improved and were doing
a great job...now it's back to a joke. Comment:Oh
yes... pre trip preparations... Isn't travel a blast in these times? At least there are
non-stops to ATL I guess
today
will be... getting ready for my trip to the ATL tommorrow, which i'm very
excited about. Comment:Good
Morning Mr. Roberts Look... day two of sunny weather here in SEA! Although some of
us have to get to work soon and will miss much of it, I hope you take
advantage of it for the rest of us! What's on your outdoor adgenda
today Danny? A little tennis at Greenlake? Perhaps some shopping at
the market? Might I suggest a bike ride at Alki?
I like
Chicago... but couldn't deal with your winter. Rain is bad enough. Comment:
Re:
both times.... Oh...yeah...that's one thing....Momma Nat frequently has PMS over here, very tempermental. Weather here is pretty much to the extremes...either hot as hell or freezing. well, whenever ya head here next i hope you get pleasant weather and fit a run in along the lake.
both
times.... i've been in Chi-town, it was freezing! Comment:
Re: no
but... Yeah chicago's pretty run/bike friendly too. our mayor is a
cylcing freak. and now i'm starting to bike to work nowadays too and
after work i bike over to the lake and run along the shore. it's all
about helping out and chillin with Momma Nat. (sorry, that's my corny
nickname for mother nature).
no
but... this is an awesome city for running and hiking. There are trails
all through the city, including one that passes right by downtown. It's
common to see "commuters" coming to work on bikes and running. We have a
trail near my house that goes through a tunnel about a mile long
underneath a hill to the other side, which is lake Washington. Comment:
Runners
Mag hey Danny,
please, who waits these days? and most gays can't wait until the end of the first date! Comment:Re:
Gay Marriages? Here's a question for the room that I have been asking myself
for a while, "If gay marriages were permitted, do you think that gays
would wait to get married before having sex (civil unions aside).
Personally, I would have to say yes because in my own experience I am
choosing to wait until I am in a committed relationship (as close as
possible to the govt. view of marriage) to have sex. Send me your
views!
you
dirty Euros... are sex feinds! Comment:haha,> teenagers usually have sex with 15 here...*and ooopps, they are mom and dad...* and are there really people on this world who wait..and are not indian? Well, gay marriage is also legal in Germany lol
I'm
just kidding... but I do know Mandy as ridiculous as that is. Andy is just a
kick#####Tennis player. Comment:when
i lived in boca raton i knew him. we are not as close nowadays cause he has mandy but we still chat back and forth and when i visit florida i try to see him. how about u...
you
know Andy too? we go way back.
sorry
Max... but some of us can to a degree. Comment:

HAPPY
BIRTHDAY GEORGE! no
brownies yet!
what's
up stoker...bringing who?
good
morning world
though... i'm sure now people will rush to say why they love the man. I
personally don't dislike him as a candidate but just like Dean better.
the
funny thing... is that several people keep saying that Dean is a waste of time
and yada yada, yet I hear no one saying why they love Kerry so much. The
media actually seems to be saying more about Dean than Kerry. The man is
popular enigma. Comment:
Same
here... Saw your "Dean" comments. Said everything I was trying to say about people voting for the "popular" candidate. I was a bit frustrated that someone would tell me that I am wrong for backing Dean.
evening...tired and ready for bed
thanks
and welcome to the board
exactly it's very immature to be telling anyone who they should and should
not vote for. No hard feelings Jason, just don't do it again and that
goes for everyone. Comment:
gimme a
break Ok, I'm sick of this.
to
anyone interested... VH1 is airing a behind the scenes special on the Real World that
includes the first 9 casts on Monday, June 30.

Danny
on the 210 Yeh man I saw u driving the other day in your car on the
the
sun... is finally out so i've got to get outside. Have an awesome day.
hilarious here we are discussing my business on the message board! Yes, i
still get the same pay...my rate is flat but some of these agents do
take huge cuts. If you go with the cheaper agent, just don't let World
Wide know why you're doing it because then I end up in the middle of a
ridiculous battle. Comment:hey
danny----difference in your speaking agents? Hey danny
good
question I was talking with one of my agents about this the other day. My
life would be VERY different. Not better, not worse, just very
different. Comment:random
question... this is sort of related, but just out of suriosity, do you ever wonder where you rlife would be if you had decided not to do the real world. those little decisions that can totally change things are always cool.
the
minute... I think i deserve anything is the minute my soul is dead. You only
deserve what you give and i've got plenty more to give in life. I'm just
getting started. Being a good person and doing what's right is what
keeps me going as corny as that sounds. Comment:
thats
cool... Yeah i totally take the "things happen for a reason" stnadpoint with stuff as well. Maybe its just to make myself feel better about things or try and find some grounding in stuff that makes no sense, like you said, but i think that the effects of our decisions are often too powerful to ignore. Thats cool. I will totally check the book out (though i'm not much of a leader). the connector thing totally fits with this webboard alone. its cool that you thought about all that sutff. i think some people in your position would just be like "oh yeah i deserve this!"
I look
at it this way... There have been many positive results of me doing the show and
much of it makes no sense to me. However, I look at it from a spiritual
standpoint and believe that a higher power meant it all to be. I read a
book last year called "The Tipping Point" by Malcomlm Gladwell and it
really made all of this make sense. It's about how ideas are spread and
how people play different roles in the spread of ideas. The book made me
understand that i'm very much a "connector" or someone who brings people
together in relationships for the eventual spread of ideas. Read it if
you're interested in leadership especially. Comment:

well I
wasn't really talking about celebs in my experience they are even more dull than the next!! Present
company excluded of course
this
experience.... the best part has been all the people i've been exposed to and I
don't necessarily mean celebrities because they can be just as dull as
the next. I've just met some really incredible people along the way and
am very thankful to have had the opportunity.
yes... well, tons of guys will open up to me about their sexuality but
wont tell anyone else, but that's to be expected. I know of many
celebrities who are gay as well....one of which propositioned me. Pretty
crazy stuff. It's thing's like that that make my life abnormal. Comment:
Danny.... yeah what type...you have traveled extensively so I am sure you are exposed to lots of people that would open up to you and not the rest of us
know
what you're talking about but I forget
yep
Re: It
gets better I think i just like the sun too much. When I first moved here I
thought I liked rain...that was until the first time it rained for a
month straight and then I was like, "hold up, where the hell am I
living?" Plus, being from the south, when it rains, I want
thunderstorms! I've heard thunder exactly one time in a year and a half
here. Comment:
It gets
better It takes a couple seasons to get acclimated. Most people from
the South normally just stay inside if it rains because the sun will
be out the next day. If you have that mentality, the winters will
suck. It's light rain, never thunders, and you get to where it just
doesn't bother you. Plus we don't have all the flies, mosquito's and
bugs to deal with after rain. I think you just haven't been
acclimated, but guess each to his own. I just love my state.
everyone... keeps telling me i'll get used to the winter but i've learned how
people get "used" to it now. They all get depressed and are fine with
the fact. I craziest thing I ever heard was last winter when I heard a
guy say, "i'm sick of the sun, I can't wait until winter." I was
thinking, "why, are you sick of being happy?"
have
fun... i'm glad to see positive people around
i
wouldnt' still be here if i didn't like it... this has got to be one of if not the most beautiful cities in the
country.
Eric Because winter royally sucks here! I really like it here as well
man but the winter kills me. It's the reason i'll have to leave,
otherwise i'd stay forever. Comment:
Seattle
Rocks!! Danny, you openly criticize Seattle more than anyone I know!
i'm
sure i left out many
gay
men... multiply the airline industry, the entertainment industry and the
floral industry. Comment:
you
misread.... hell I knew that you were flying FedEx...and yes that is probably one of the more dominated industries!!
please.... most of these schools would put me in the cargo bay if they could
to save money. I'm always in the back with everyone else unless of
course i'm lucky enough to have a very gay flight attendant (and you
know there's plenty of those) who kindly bumps me up to first class.

I would
have to seriously sink some money into first class tickets if I did that at least you are racking up the miles on someone elses buck!!
that
depends... but in the peak of my speaking season I spend as much time in the
air as I do in my home. It sucks because most of my speaking happens in
the east so i'm constantly flying back and forth across the country. The
craziest thing i did was take a red-eye, speak in the morning in NY and
hop back on a plane to get home by that evening. I'm a cross country
commuter half the time but love it. Comment:
Danny.... How much time do you spend in the air?
yeah... shouldn't even respond but it blows my mind that some KID would go
there with his opinions. It has more to do with the overall attitude in
this country towards voting. The, "I must vote for the most popular guy"
attitude. It's everywhere. Comment:
don't
you get it....you can't like the OBVIOUS looser that is so asinine. Support whoever you want, hell there is a
goat that is the mayor of one of the towns in West Texas....
Dean The reason I like the man.
it's a

now
don't forget my friend... I'm American. we eat all kinds of trash. We are the ones who
spread fast-food to all corners of the earth! This is not my usual but
the brownie was calling my name as I made coffee. I did have fresh fruit
with it so does that make it ok? Comment:
how can

Good
Morning Danny! Pardon me for being new to this board ;) Look what beautiful
weather we have here in SEA today! It cracks me up that spring was so
hot (or comfortable for those of Georgan background) and the true
summer starts like this!
it's
not that early!
