After a tank top too many and the sound of ear-piercing lisps, I scurried back to my car to seek refuge when I found my attention grabbed by a photo which appeared to be a beer ad, containing your photo?

Was this a fake? Do you need to sue The Cuff and that beer company?

the more people that speak up against it, the more others will realize that it's not the only alternative in life. I think most guys just turn to it because it's safe and an easy escape. If it makes guys happy though, then i'm ok with it and more power to them. I'm speaking for guys who are left dissatisfied with mainstream gay life and i really think there are many out there.

what I said is harsh but I think alot of guys are increasingly feeling that way. That's the reason this board exists and most of the guys coming here probably feel this way too. I think most guys are just afraid to say it because there is such a backlash. That's why I find myself in such a touch position. By being a public figure, I want to support gays of course but then i'm equally torn by wanting to cut down the BS as well. it's frustrating but I think so many guys feel this way that i'm not afraid to say it anymore. If no one speaks up then it'll only get more shallow and worse.

I definitely agree with you yet feel that the limitations and oppresion within mainstream gay culture completely outway the same evils in mainstream straight culture.

Many gays spend tons of time thinking their escaping the evils of straight culture, only to find themselves even unhappier in the gay world.

      Only the strong survive it.

that's so funny and fitting to post this under Dan Savage. I wrote an article here with another writer for the stranger and Dan shot it down in 2 seconds. That's exactly what I said. Gays spend all there time screaming, "look at me, i'm such an individual, so free, blah blah blah", but the truth is that most gays have thrown off the shackles of oppression from one group and ran and put some gay ones on. Gay culture can be just as limiting and oppressing as mainstream straight culture and this is just one example. Dan censored my piece because it didn't fit the gay agenda and most gays can't handle any criticism, even when it's healthy.

I had a conversation with a friend the other night that I thought was pretty interesting. Her and I discussed how the coming out process is often a very difficult one. Gays come out of the closet to escape all the superficiality and bull#### of living in the closet.

The sad this is that as soon as you openly "enter" the gay world, you find yourself immersed deeper into the bull#### of the gay world, all a direct product of insecurites and internalized homophobia.

This is why it is so important to maintain individuality, by not allowing gay to be a definition of who you are. It's so ####ing discouraging though...

For me, the community here is rather discouraging for a couple reasons. Because there definitely are these two distinct groups (capitol hill and those who completely seperate themselves) here in Seattle, it can be hard to connect yourself to gay people that aren't like the in-crowd. Those who do seperate themselves, completely seperate themselves. I interact with very few gays and sometimes I wish there were more people who actually "get it."

It's strange though, because I still find myself fascinated by the mainstream crowd here. I think it's amazing that forty year old men act like eighteen year olds, and somehow that's seen as a good thing.

      I'm rambling.

i'm kind of like you and don't get into it much but my few experiences havent' been that great. From what i've seen, insecurity and depression runs rampant amongst gays here but there seems to be two distinct groups of gays here more so than what i'm used to. There's the mainstream Capitol Hill group that's mostly b*tchy and lame and then there's a huge group of guys that totally seperates themselves from that and does their own thing. I think it's really easy to live outside the gay world here because being gay is pretty accepted. There's no need to be a part of the scene at all.
As for the city, I don't want to sound too negative about it because it is a special place and has alot of special qualities that are not to be found in most places. I'm just frustrated right now because I haven't travelled much lately and that's what I live for. I'm not giving up on this city either and I'm determined to find it's best parts.

i really do love the environment around Seattle. It's some of the most beautiful countryside i've ever seen. However, the city life doesn't justify the outrageous cost of living here. If it weren't for the water, mountains, etc, hardly anyone would live here.

don't mind justifying. The problem with Seattle is that so many people who live here are stay at home types who just want to sit on the couch and relax, read a book, watch TV, etc. Screw that man! If you're going to live in a city, then live a city life and get your#####out and socialize. Socializing can be painful at times here because it's like pulling teeth with some people and that's if you catch them out. Mainly my problem is that i'm just too spoiled by spending too much time in New York, Boston, Atlanta and LA. After that, anything would be a snooze.

yes, the summer here is perfect but there's more reasons i'll leave than the weather.
First off, the winter here lasts 8 months and that's too much. I'll stick with home where it lasts 3 months. Secondly, I don't ever want to live in one place all my life...that's boring.
Third, there's too much passive aggressiveness here. Fourth, this city is way too white.

Danny, that sucks that you are going to be moving in a few years, I mean, just go out today and think about how great a city this is..True, the winters do sort of suck, but the winters suck pretty much everywhere, if you really think about it, well, except maybe Florida and Southern California, but who wants to live with all the nation's seniors, or with an illegal immigration problem? I think you could do a lot worse than Seattle, but hey, I can't say how I'll feel about 7 or 8 more winers, I have been here since Dec. of 99, and they haven't gotten to me yet..anyway, just my 2 cents.

Isn't travel a blast in these times? At least there are non-stops to ATL I guess Don't forget how terribly messed up the SEA airport is this week. We all used to laugh at the 2-hour early warning, but after missing a flight a while back when being there 90 minutes early... I've learned my lesson ;)

What's on your outdoor adgenda today Danny? A little tennis at Greenlake? Perhaps some shopping at the market? Might I suggest a bike ride at Alki?

Thanks again for hosting this board for us... since I stumbled upon it a few days ago I've found some great chat.

this is an awesome city for running and hiking. There are trails all through the city, including one that passes right by downtown. It's common to see "commuters" coming to work on bikes and running. We have a trail near my house that goes through a tunnel about a mile long underneath a hill to the other side, which is lake Washington.

Personally, I would have to say yes because in my own experience I am choosing to wait until I am in a committed relationship (as close as possible to the govt. view of marriage) to have sex. Ok, I'm sick of this.

I've long accepted that Jason and others on this board, myself included, have differing political opinions. Discussing these differences is certainly healthy, but when it comes to the point of personal attacks and crap like "don't vote for X cuz he doesn't have a chance" it goes over the line. I, and others have repeatedly brought this up, and yet this #### continued. Suddenly, Danny speaks up about it and Jason gives him the "no hard feelings" routine. Gimme a break. Do you honestly not give the same respect to everyone else on this board, Jason, because we either don't share your politcal opinions or because we aren't former stars of Real World? Are you really that shallow?
I'm sorry this sounds like such a low blow, and I know that I'm not helping matters by bringing this up, but I'm sick of this kind of hypocracy around here by certain people. Just grow up and treat EVERYONE on this board with the same respect that you would have them treat you, regardless of celebrity status or political opinion. Sigh.

      Hey danny

My name is Erin Jones and I am the programming coordinator with a small school in Virginia. We are interested in having you speak here. I am just a bit baffled because we called Worldwide Talent (who i see is listed on your website) and then another agent with Creative Promotions. Both agents had the same first name (Ironically) but one was A LOT cheaper than the other with regard to overall price? The guy at Creative Promotions told me commissions are involved here and some agency's are high and some are low. I just want to make sure you would still be getting paid the same if I went with the cheaper guy (he also stayed on the phone with me for 30 minutes versus the 2 that the more expensive guy had for me!) Anyhow, I popped on here because your agent gave me this URL and saw you were posting (which I think is awesome!). Have a wonderful day! I will stop back on here later this afternoon.

Yeah i totally take the "things happen for a reason" stnadpoint with stuff as well. Maybe its just to make myself feel better about things or try and find some grounding in stuff that makes no sense, like you said, but i think that the effects of our decisions are often too powerful to ignore. Thats cool. I will totally check the book out (though i'm not much of a leader). the connector thing totally fits with this webboard alone. its cool that you thought about all that sutff. i think some people in your position would just be like "oh yeah i deserve this!"

There have been many positive results of me doing the show and much of it makes no sense to me. However, I look at it from a spiritual standpoint and believe that a higher power meant it all to be. I read a book last year called "The Tipping Point" by Malcomlm Gladwell and it really made all of this make sense. It's about how ideas are spread and how people play different roles in the spread of ideas. The book made me understand that i'm very much a "connector" or someone who brings people together in relationships for the eventual spread of ideas. Read it if you're interested in leadership especially.

I think i just like the sun too much. When I first moved here I thought I liked rain...that was until the first time it rained for a month straight and then I was like, "hold up, where the hell am I living?" Plus, being from the south, when it rains, I want thunderstorms! I've heard thunder exactly one time in a year and a half here.

It takes a couple seasons to get acclimated. Most people from the South normally just stay inside if it rains because the sun will be out the next day. If you have that mentality, the winters will suck. It's light rain, never thunders, and you get to where it just doesn't bother you. Plus we don't have all the flies, mosquito's and bugs to deal with after rain. I think you just haven't been acclimated, but guess each to his own. I just love my state.

keeps telling me i'll get used to the winter but i've learned how people get "used" to it now. They all get depressed and are fine with the fact. I craziest thing I ever heard was last winter when I heard a guy say, "i'm sick of the sun, I can't wait until winter." I was thinking, "why, are you sick of being happy?"

Danny, you openly criticize Seattle more than anyone I know! Some of us love it here, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else! It does rain a lot, but we have low crime rate, beautiful mountains, liberal state and local government, and the summers are beautiful! Even the winter isn't that bad if you like to ski or winter sports. I lived in South Carolina and Georgia most my life and this is heaven on earth compared to there! Can't you think of anything about here you like?

most of these schools would put me in the cargo bay if they could to save money. I'm always in the back with everyone else unless of course i'm lucky enough to have a very gay flight attendant (and you know there's plenty of those) who kindly bumps me up to first class.

but in the peak of my speaking season I spend as much time in the air as I do in my home. It sucks because most of my speaking happens in the east so i'm constantly flying back and forth across the country. The craziest thing i did was take a red-eye, speak in the morning in NY and hop back on a plane to get home by that evening. I'm a cross country commuter half the time but love it.

How much time do you spend in the air?

I have been at my bosses computer all day and she might as well buy a row of airplane seats and install it cause they are more comfortable than her chair!!

yeah...

shouldn't even respond but it blows my mind that some KID would go there with his opinions. It has more to do with the overall attitude in this country towards voting. The, "I must vote for the most popular guy" attitude. It's everywhere.

The reason I like the man.
Let me restate this but state it more clearly...I don't give a #### if the man is pro-gay marriage or not.
I like the man because he's honest. The man speaks his mind, which is so rare in politics these days. Yes, some of his ideas are a little radical for most of America but the man isn't' even that radical. Maybe he's just called that for being honest. The man just wants to get us back into line with the rest of the developed world instead of roaming on our own down the wrong road of separatism. So Jason, tell me again why i'm so wrong for liking the man?

I'm American. we eat all kinds of trash. We are the ones who spread fast-food to all corners of the earth! This is not my usual but the brownie was calling my name as I made coffee. I did have fresh fruit with it so does that make it ok?

I hate when you post and it picks up a post that someone else was posting at the same time.
Let me repeat what I said before it got crossed with Stoker's post.
Jason, You were so out of line before and I don't ever want to see someone posting what you posted below. Who the hell are you to tell people they're wrong for thier choices? You are no more right than they are buddy.

Pardon me for being new to this board ;) Look what beautiful weather we have here in SEA today! It cracks me up that spring was so hot (or comfortable for those of Georgan background) and the true summer starts like this!

Did you get any interesting weekend activities in Danny? How about the solstice parade over in the center of the universe (AKA Fremont)?

      Cheers!- James
