It depends on what schools book and most of them wont do their booking until later next month. Keep checking the list.

Hey guys. Just stopped by the check and am lovin it that some people are talking this morning.
Hey Chris, yeah, the states stay divided mostly among ethnic neighborhoods. You have to think to our history and the beginning when you had people from all over the world comming en masse at the same time. It was natural for them to gang together with who they connected with, especially by language. It has always been that way and probably will be for a long time in the future.

      Hi!

I read the interesting conversation about race.

I personally don't get the fact that there are still such big issues in your country?
On my Florida trip I was scared when I went through different quarters in Miami and other big cities. I can't understand that every race/ethnic group has there own quarter (hispanic quarter, black quarter, gay quarter etc.). And I almost never saw any blacks hanging out with withes, they just kept out of their way.
This is unbelieveable. I never saw something like this here in Europe. OK, we only have few blacks, but the ones I know are all very well accepted. The same goes to foreigners and other minorities.

What are the reasons? It's really hard to say, maybe people in Europe are more openly and try to get along with everybody, and maybe we learned from history!?!?!

only suggestion

    Freeman,
the only thing I can suggest is to either move to a new town or at least to a new neighborhood. I know exactly where you live and it's cracker-ville. I live off Rainier Ave and that's more brown than anywhere else. I'm one of the only white kids around here and like it that way.
That cracks me up about the Walgreens thing and that's so typical. People in my neighborhood got pissed because they want to tear down a couple of crap buildings left over from the 70's that have no character to build a new light rail station. Give me a break. I'd rather hear people not complain about anything and live in "utopia" than whine about crap like that.
I do like this town alot though.

On that note, I have to say good night so that I can go run. I'll be cooped up in a plane for 5 hours in less than 24 so I need to move all I can.
I enjoyed the convo guys and wish there was more of this on the board. Seems like lately it has devolved into a chat room of sorts.
    Take care until next time.

Mike, I get the point you're making, but the fault here is that you're not taking into account those who really are affected by racism in the end. What you said is so easy for a white kid to say. "Oh yeah, racism isn't a part of my life." If your skin was brown, even if you weren't racist and wanted to ignore it, you couldn't help but not be affected by it.

yeah man, you're right...white, white, white. However, racism and all the other isms aren't as much a problem here. This place is so #### liberal and accepting in general. But...you're right, because of the fact that people aren't exposed to many real social problems here, they tend to forget that they exist. It cracks me up what kind of rediculous crap people get their panties in a wad over here. Life is so relatively easy here and people don't know how good they have it. People will ##### about the smallest things and don't even realize what REAL problems exist out there in America and the world.

Freeman, here's your biggest problem man....YOU live in Seattle! This is one of the whitest places period i've ever seen. Coming from Georgia, it just trips me out how white this place is. Actually, it kind of freaks me out sometimes. Example, yesterday at he mall, I stopped and started looking around and realized that there was Paul and one other brown man in the whole #### place! Cracker-ville.

Mike, your statement wasn't ignorant buddy, just idealistic as you put it. It's easier not to notice a problem when it doesn't directly affect you.

you're completely right Freeman. There aren't many potrayals of gays of color in the media most likely because the media is controlled mostly by lame#####white guys, especially lame#####gay white guys. That's why narrow minded, self-limiting shows like QAF exist. They're being created by old white men who are very out of touch with the newer generations. I'm not even going to get on that old subject anymore. I'm sick of talking about that show. I've really gotten into watching 6 feet under lately. There's a gay guy on that show whose a black cop. Seen it? Good stuff.
Mike, your post was beautifully utopian.

Basically, because the gay community is so overwhelmingly white, it has been very difficult for me to feel completely accepted. The few images of gays that are portrayed through various forms of media, very rarely include people of color. There are few things about my identity that are reinforced as being positives within our community. Even though it's a crappy show, no one on "Queer as Folk" looks like me.

Danny, I definitely agree with you. Much of the problem is the inability for progressive-minded individuals to represent all of us through media. Yes, I'm a big of fan of Six Feet Under(my favorite show on TV at this point). The writing on that show is amazing and like nothing I've seen before. You're right, I've definitely seen (Keith) the black cop on 6 Feet Under and it does feel good to see that representation on television.

not sure exactly what answer you want however I do feel that race is less of an issue within the community. In general, gays tend to be more accepting of just about anyone, including people of color. Amazingly though, there are some bigoted gays out there who don't like brown skin just the same as any other bigot.
I think it's interesting that many straight people of color don't like gays just the same as any white. You'd think that after the struggles they've been through they would be more understanding. I think it has to do alot with religion and also there's the strong belief that being gay is somehow a choice. There's this belief among many people of color that a gay of color is only choosing to make their life even more difficult. I've seen it alot and dealt with it with friends back home.

Me personally, I love brown skin and Paul can vouch for that!

I appreciate your response. I was interested in your opinion, for two reasons: because you're a white gay male, and you are in love with a person of color.
Analyzing this issue has been interesting for me. Being a gay man of color, I'm sad to say that I've felt an overwhelming amount of marginilization because of my race. It's really strange actually....I thought that I would readily accepted by gays, but feel that a Black man has limited that acceptance.

I have to let those of you know who are from Seattle on here about one of the best nights of music i've found here yet. It's a night called Bollywood thrown by The Baltic room every other Saturday. Went last night and had a freakin blast. The music (Indian pop) was so good and the crowd was so much fun (no attitude). The night will happen again on New Year's Eve at Chop Suey so if you get a chance to go, I recommend it. I hope the Baltic room will host this night more in January.

    Mike,
My group of friends that I keep close to me are like a family to me. In college, my close knit group of friends actually referred to each other as family. I love those kids as much as I love my real family. It's about quality, not quantity. I realized years ago that it's better to have a small group of friends that you really connect with and who get you/vice-versa than to have many friends.
Living out west has really made me miss my family as well and they're more important to me no than ever before.

So Anonymous, have you actually seen BB2? Probably not since it hasn't been released yet so how do you know it's such trash? It's actually nothing but short films (mostly European) about young guys who are coming to terms with their sexuality. I'll admit that some of it isn't the best material but it's certainly not as trashy as QAF. I know what I'm doing and I wouldn't host something that was against what I stand for or my morals.

    Good I hope.
Robby, calm down buddy. You're far too sensitive. As I said before, of course young people can be wise and way ahead of their time. And of course not every experienced person is wise. However, experience does bring wisdom and a young person who is wise will only be that much wiser later in life. I know this from experience my friend. Trust me, I have far more in common with you than you may know. I too thought I knew so much at your age but just a few years later i've learned how much I still don't know and have to learn. A wise person knows not what they know but what they don't know. Hope you feel better buddy.
